It's seems like a repetitive theme, talking about great people that Kodiak says goodbye to, but it's true. The military brings in great people, and sometimes steals the hearts of those already living here. Double goodbyes. 

Just before these two left, we got to enjoy one of our very rare beautiful summer evenings.

Peder & Jess, an Alaskan Wedding

This past January, we said goodbye to Grandpa. All of our family, piled into his small apartment, emotionally exhausted from the days, weeks before. But relieved to be together, in that small space. We talked about daily things, we talked about old memories. We talked about treasures we'd like to take with us, small keepsakes to remind us of him. One of those was his suit. Six months later, we piled in together once again, to celebrate my cousin's wedding. Tailored to fit him just right, he wore my Grandpa's suit down the aisle, in a celebration of love. Honoring who we lost, and honoring the new journey he was beginning in marriage. We joyously welcomed our new cousin, and we celebrated. We celebrated all the love we have for one another and all the joy in witnessing these two begin a new chapter together. We celebrated them.

All you need is love.

on a quaint little street,
lived two wonderful souls,
you ever did meet.

Together, they laughed and they cried,
and they shared their dreams,
as the looked at one another,
and did their eyes beam.

Because these two,

to begin their life as one,

Logan and Halley

Turning the calendar to March felt somewhat victorious. Like it was an award, stating "congratulations, you've made it out of the throws of winter." Except this year we haven't really had a winter, just a lot of brown, with a side of gray. & in Alaska, winter is never over in March, but I like the idea that it could be spring. It has me motivated and crossing things off my to-do list, like tackling that bright pink sticky note, shouting at me "BLOG, a lot!" because I haven't really blogged client work in months, work like this wedding that is one of my most favorites. Not just because I'm staring at images of 90 degree weather and crystal blue skies, and being reminded of burning my feet on hot sand, but also because of the bride and groom. You know when you read a really good book, or watch that really emotional part in a movie, and tears are streaming down your face, and your thinking "oh my gosh, why am I crying? stop crying!" but you don't, because you can't because you're so emotionally moved? That's what this wedding was. It was over the top, from the heart, mad love.
